the grill on my 57 has obviouly been re-chromed. I don't know if it was cheaply done, intionally done to "preserve character" or what - but it appears to have been etched and only patially dipped with no attempt to repair dings etc. The new chrome is only on the very front surfaces and even fades at the back showing the old chrome and some rust as if it was dipped only far enough in to coat the very front!

Can this be fixed with a complete quality rechrome or would I be better off (for value sake) getting a different grill and having it done right?

What i would do is talk to your local plater and see what he can do to repair/ replate your original grille and the cost..probably going to be tough to get it redone for the cost of a quality reproduction chrome grille like this..
