I HAVE A 55 BELAIR PRO STREET WITH A EARLY 427 , IT HAS A STOCK RADIATOR WITH A FAN AND SCHROUD ON THE INSIDE AND 2 FANS ON THE OUTSIDE PULLING AIR IN. ON A HOT DAY TEMP AT 104 THE TEMP GETS UP TO 205 IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. I AM LOOKING AT A ALUMIN RADIATOR WITH A 3 CORE AND 2 FANS ON THE INSIDE BUILT WITH A SCHROUD TO PULL AIR IN . I WAS TOLD TO REMOVE THE FAN OFF THE WATER PUMP AND JUST USE THE SET UP WITH THE NEW RADIATOR. IT WOULD SOLVE ALL MY COLLING PROBLEMS ON A HOT DAY. ON A NORMAL DAY TEMP AT 85 DEGREES OR AT NIGHT IT NEVER GETS ABOVE 190 WITH THE SET UP I HAVE NOW. ANY ADVICE WOULD BE HELPFULL BEFORE I PUT OUT AROUND $600.00 FOR A NEW ALUM SET UP.

i have a well built 402 bbc, i have the griffin 2 row 1.25" and only a mechanical fan with shroud, on the hottest days 90+ my car does not go above 195, i was told by my engine builder that no electric fan can pull as much as a mechanical fan, i was skeptical but he was right no cooling problems at all.

I don't see any problem running 205 as long as it's not blowing water out the cap, we run 205 degree theromstats in our carpet cleaning vans...

believe u just dont have the cooling capacity like u mentioned, STOCK RAD. 205 is way to hot for my big blocks, Im running a 496, griffin 2 row, with 1.50 tubes, eldebrock hi flow pump, stewart 180 thermostate, mech fan no shroud and temp runs 180
good luck and keep us posted

colling ?

Thank for the info , I was told that the 2 electric fans on the front of the radiator are blocking my air flow ? I should remove them and install a alumin radiator with a built to fit shrould to hold 2 16" fans to pull air in and remove the fan off the motor. The new radiator is a 3 row 7/8 in tubes.

205 ain't gonna kill it - but not doing you any favors either. I agree with mech fan with alum radiators - electric just isn't the way to go - seems pushing isn't enough (and can restrict the air before it even has a chance to hit the fins) and when pulling the heat is pulled out of the alum so fast that the blast overheats the electric motor - since heat is resistance it slows down - loosing CFM.

Now I know there are folks who will decry this as they have no problems with this setup (even I have a puller on my 415 horse 383 with a three row alum) - but my experience is - the first one (140.00 fan) got the motor so hot it melted the mounting pads causing the whole fan to drop in the housing (never went over 190 deg) - the second one at 240.00 is doing good - but you don't ever want to touch the fan motor after its ran for half hour - thats a failure just waiting to happen at the worse possible time!!! If I wasn't running the reverse rotation serpentine and had another inch of space to deal with - I'd go back to mechanical in a second.
