I had started the console build several months ago but then it got sidelined. I went back to work on it this past weekend, and did a little more tonight. The mockup console is made from cardboard and wood.I want to get it like i want it exactly before i build the final console.

The final console is going to be built out of 1/2" marine plywood on the sides. The top is going to be made from a hardwood and stained and cleared. Still have to mockup the upper armrest for the back of it. The stereo will be in the angled area right under the glovebox. And yes, cup holders too.

Looks good Terry. Why are you going with the heavy lumber and marine grade?
Here is my last attempt at an arm rest. Was doing it for another member that seams to have lost interest. Strange how long these can take.
Good luck with yours. I bought a veneer on eBay and applied to the top of my last one.

I like your idea Terry. If you are going to mount your shifter on top be sure to allow for the push-pull effect on the top. I had to go back and add addtional bracing. here are a couple pic of mine.

Jim i`m using the marine plywood because it was left over from a boat job, free gratis. Plus it is lighter than regular plywood, and i want the top outer edge rounded, therefore thicker than the thin stuff and more durable.

Mike, yes the shifter will be mounted on top. I have it braced pretty good, plus it will be mounted to the dash and the back end of the shifter itself so it should be pretty stable. Plus the insert will be made from 1/2-3/4" hardwood. Had to rethink my armrest/storage space due to the shifter hitting it where i first wanted it.

Oh Dave the sides and the armrest/storage are will be covered in an imitation leather.
