correct hose connection for flow?

I have a genIV 454, with a blower manifold, and no heater. I have plugged the two small openings at the water pump, and ran a crossover hose from one rear manifold hose bib to the other side bib (over the distributor). I'm curious if I am impeding the water flow through the heads by doing this. Any ideas? Thanks
