For those of you restoring a '55-57 Nomad, and needing the 'Nomad' emblem for the tailgate, do you know that there was a difference between the emblem used on 1955 and 1956 Nomads and 1957 Nomads?

Either will 'work' (plug into the same holes), but to be correct your car should use the correct emblem. The emblem for the '1955-56 Nomad is/was PN 3716749 and was a cast part that was then gold plated.

The emblem for the 1957 Nomad was PN 3732860 and was a gold anodized aluminum part.

Kevin suggested adding photos, so I will do so using photos of parts I have had in my stock for 40+ years...

Links are provided to ebay ads advertising these parts available on the day of this posting.

NOS 1955-56 3716749 example here

NOS 1957 #2860 example here

PS. The Reproduction sellers only sell one part (for all years) which is more similar to the 1955-56 part than to the 1957 part.

Very informative, thank you! I might not have a nomad, but if I do in the future or for someone else, this is perfect documentation.

I'd recommend to put in saved pictures instead of links for people viewing years from now etc.

I do know, most sellers on Ebay list them incorrectly...one part fits all three years. The sad fact is that they can't hardly be given away...anyone have an NOS '57 Nomad tailgate "V" for sale?

Real hard to find. Also used on the C-Kit cover, if the car was a V-8. Here is a photo of the only NOS one I have had. That is dust on the LH edge of it.

Solid with pins. Just like the script is in 57.

Posted ebay seller shows solid for 55-56 and hollow for 57.Correct listing?
Steve asked if it (Nomad gold "V") was hollow like the trunk lid "V". It is not, it is not as solid as the 55-56 script. It is made very much like the other aluminum gold trim for 57's.

Responding to Kevin's request, I added photos of the 6749 and 2860 Nomad emblem NOS parts (both front and rear side) to my earlier post...

The correct 55-56 Nomad emblem was made of diecast and was "Gold Tone plated". 57's are aluminum and anodized. I believe you have a NOSR 57 emblem.

That's OK by you, fine by me. Check and see if the stud spacing is the same. I have seen them vary.
