I like to say "there are no dumb questions" but this feels like it might be one: what is the best way to lubricate door hinges to keep them from squeaking/making noise when the doors open and close?

I've tried getting some grease into the moving parts but whatever the reason can't seem to conquer the issue...and along with the noise I can "feel" a rough spot when I open/close especially on the driver's side. I know that's not a good thing especially over time.

Any help is appreciated.

This is caused by the hinge band moving accross the stops. The stops are spring steel and "squeak" when the band moves over them. Take some wheel bearing grease and apply it to the band
where it moves against the stops. The rough spot is the stop as it flexes to allow the door to close. Do both the upper and lower side of each band.

A couple of my tri-five-owning friends acted as though I had committed a serious transgression when I removed that squeek.... mea culpa
