Nice to have a crew like that to help out! The cool temps likely didn't make the process easy, but the result speaks for itself . Good luck with the lower trim and corners...that was the most difficult part when I did it a few weeks ago. There must be a trick I didn't know about.... Anybody - ?

Great job guys. It really helps to have good friends to help. I have been debating on installing my windshield before painting since I have the firewall and cowl painted also. I thing you just pushed me over the edge.

It was a hard call. But the fact is we can’t get to the roof paint anytime soon and I really needed to get some parts out the door and on the car. That and I am nearly 100% certain this car will not be painted soon and so do we let the car sit until we can paint it or do we get Patrick behind the wheel As soon as possible. We chose as soon as possible. After all, when all of us were younger, who among us did not have a car we drove that was in red oxide primer! Lol.

Hear is mine in red oxide primer. I think Patrick can drive his for a bit in primer, lol.

now that it is in, there is no doubt Patrick and I can carefully tape around the beautiful trim Mikey provided when it comes time for painting the roof.

As for that crew, it is almost impossible to believe that we have known each other for 47 years, with Pat and Bob knowing each other longer. To say I am fortunate would be a real understatement.

I'm wanting to put my windshield in and the back glass but I want to get the headliner in first while the interior is gutted also. My problem is I have no help that has installed glass. I have installed a lot on older pickups but those are a completely different animal.

To install the lower trim: READ THIS THROUGH SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE DOING IT.
Install the special clip in the corner stainless like this. Crimp the bottom inside where the notch it.
Fixture Household hardware Wood Automotive exterior Gas

Put screws in the upper trim loosely enough to hold it down, but not enough to prevent the corner trim to slip over them. Install the screw in the retainer clip after they are installed. Slide them up and over the end of the upper trim.

Install the stud and nut clip into the end of the lower windshield trim and move it to the appx location when installed. Install the screw in clip
on the body. Now slide the lower inside side end over the screwed in clip and push it toward the center enough to get the outer end to
fit into the corner clip, and also make sure the stud of the installed stud clip doesn't scratch the paint. Make sure it gets put into the hole in the body.

Adjust the stainless so it lays flat. Do the same on the other lower pcs. The last will be the center clips. The one in the middle that goes under the stainless is just slid in one end enough to clear the hole. Use a pick to move the clip so it is inserted in both lower stainless pcs and install the screw to hold it down. The stainless clip is started over the top edge, and snapped down over the lower. Use the width of this clip to gauge the location of the 2 lower pcs, before you install it. Now find the 2 studs on the lower windshield clips under the dash and install a nut and washer with plenty of strip caulk around the stud, also apply more after the nut is tight because this is a place water will try and run into the car. You can also put some on the stud and back of the clip before the stud is installed in the hole.

Thank you Mikey. I was fretting pretty good about getting them installed correctly. I will re read the above a couple of times and then do a sort of dry run. I would really like to see this go well.

You guys will be fine. I sure wish I could have been there to see Patricks face when that first few pcs of the stainless went on his car.....must have been priceless!

Shadetree, I had my front and rear glass installed and was driving my 55 a number of months before installing the headliner.
Congratulations Mike, Patrick and crew in getting the glass installed.

I just figured would be MUCH easier with glass removed.

It was. It was actually more fun to watch him unwrap the pieces, and get a first gander of the brilliant stainless as it peaked out from the newspaper, lol. and then how carefully he was handling it. Nice to see how he appreciated the work that went into making those pieces so nice.

So after Mikey’s unbelievable tutorial on the installation of the diabolical windshield lower corner and lower stainless trim I decided to take a look at the clips I have. Hillbilly 823 gave Patrick a full set of reproduction clips he had on hand from ol55 a little while back. I salvaged what original clips I could from the car. They were pretty rusty. I glass beaded and painted them and put the aside. So tonight I took them all out and did a little comparison.

Here is the full set of reproduction clips from Hillbilly 823
