Looks like a game of chicken gone bad. Anyone got any info on this wreck?

It's been floating around on the internet for several years. Notice the wrecker in the background. This crash probably occurred in the 50s.

Notice the location of the steering wheel on the Caddy.
Two convertibles to boot!
That was back when the world was in black and white:cool: Looks like the Caddy caught on fire... Later, Dave
Here is a photo i have posted before, it was my first 55 i had, i sold it to a friend and 6 months later he crashed it. This was the photo from the news paper.

Looks like the caddy got the worst of it, so much for the heavier/safer car theory. Dave

Ilike the roll and tuck interior.

The Chevy is hit in the rear too, the Caddy wasn't. Maybe a thrid unseen car pushed the Chevy into the Caddy. Their combined weight and momentum would explain the odd greater visable damage on the heavier Caddy. If all else is equal, the laws of physics always hold, and heavier wins the battle. But I agree, this photo seems to show the opposite.

About the 55 that hit the telephone pole, Wow! That Chevy really held up well and the driver didn't go through the windshield. Maybe it was because of the dead on center hit right into the engine block?
this is in the form of a question...is this the wreck that Mamie Van Doran was killed in where she was decapitated?????

Doubtful since she made a cameo appearance in the movie Slackers in 2002 and that wreck is much older than that...

Rick I think that is a fire truck, not a wrecker.

I also agree that the 55 was not hit from behind, the impact just bent the frame, notice no bumper damage or debris on the ground behind it.

Could you be thinking Jane Mansfield?

..... She died in an automobile accident at age 34.

"I think more likely the Chevy's frame buckled from the impact" On second look I agree that is correct. But that doesn't change how that damage helped the Chevy against the Caddy. The energy from the impact that went into buckling the Chevy's rear frame was energy that was not transfered to smashing the front end of the Chevy. So that is still one reason why the Chevy did better than expected. Sorta like the crumble zones in new car. Where was this photo when we had the 59 Belair vs. the 09 Malibu?
So, that's what happened to all the convertables. They still could be fixed back up. Not back then, maybe, but now for sure. Charles :wavey:
Not the Jayne Mansfield wreck - her ride was a 66 electra ... the wreck she had was re-enacted a very weird movie called Crash - however the re-enactment was not very accurate as they had her in a convertable - the car WAS a hard top and was peeled back - no converting from that.

The pic in question appears here (at the very bottom): http://www.348-409.com/misc.html

Edit: Jayne was NOT decapitated - she was scalped, there are photos of the body being removed and it is clear the the injuries were from her eye brows back (and there is co-responding blood on the front of the Electra's door). The decap rumor was just that - you know how we think the media is playing with us now - it was worse back then so generally folks thought they were hiding something when out of respect they chose not to disclose the details.
