front axle

what was a common front straight axle to use for a tri 5 gasser? I have an opportunity to pick up a front axle but want to be sure it is what would have been used in the day ?

the list is long....ford econoline, chevy/ford pickup, early ford car, willys, chevyvan, and aftermarket tubes were used by the "high dollar" racers.
width of the axle is important also. 5-6-7's look FUNNY if the front tires are not "out" were the stock ones were.

Basically it was whatever fit. Some even used model A ford axles and springs with hair pin radius rods. What kind of axle are you looking at?
