so recently I pulled this out of the woods. It was the original '55 2 door Bel Air that my father had. He was going to rebuild it but ended up stumbling across a '55 4 door that was in great condition so we ended up sacrificing the rotted out 2 door's rear quarters. The operation was a complete success!
A few years later, I decided the only right thing to do would be to pull the old car out of the woods and try to make a gasser out of it. My good friend had a Mercury 454 and TH400 taking up space in his garage so I took that off his hands and plan on putting it in the rails of this frame. I'm in southeastern Connecticut and am searching for a rotted out '55-6-7 two door. Ill pull it out of the woods or cut it up where it stands haha I don't care, I just need another body. Anyone in the area have or know of any shot trifives that I could get my hands on for either free or cheap?

yea Mercury Marine 454 out of a performance boat like a cigarette boat or something. I dont know what it was out of exactly but It runs straight. The guy i got it off of had it in a chevy pick up but it was too powerful for him.

Most likely out of a single engine boat, twin engine boats had one running backward to balance the torque of the engines...
If it still has the marine cam it might be rough on the street, they are meant to run full throttle under a load for a long time...

I'll trade you my list of free and cheap 2 door Tri Five bodies for the front end off your 55! I'll even throw in the parts you need to get that Merc running!

Sorry, couldn't resist...
Maybe you could find a stripped parts car to combine with yours, if you're really going low budget.
Good, fast, or cheap, pick two.

haha yea im going fast and cheap with this '55 project. My '56 is going to be the pretty one. This is only going to be used for friday night drags at the local speedway. It's a very small drag but its all we have around here since they closed Connecticut dragway. wide open throttle is what im looking for so this motor will be just the ticket. I found a couple of cars in the woods.. a '55 hardtop and '56 4 door sedan. both are halfway in the ground but could be just what i need to build whats missing on this here body. I just have to talk to the owner of the property to get permission to take the cars or whats left of them. I'll end up building a support frame and sheet metal for the floors and insides.
