Getting ready to dive into my '55 project. Looking for some advice. Should I mock up the motor(BBC) and tranny (700r4) before I remove the body? Or do the suspension thing first and do the motor later.

Thanks for any help.

With a BBC, I would mock it up before removeing the body because of firewall clearance problems.

Mock up the BBC and trans and position them 3/4" forward from stock position. Once you have that location, measure, check angles and tack the mounts in place. Now you can dry fit the headers, power steering and any accessories you have to ensure everything fits and lines up before removing the body.

Depending if it's a standard deck, with or without tall valve covers, and your positioning of the block...this will determine if you need to massage the firewall or perhaps add some valve cover pockets to allow for clearance of your valve covers. What mounts and who's headers are you planning to use?

I may have some suggestions for you.
