Hi guys,

Just pulled the center section out of my '56. It is a "p" case with a part number of 3743833, date code C-10. The posi carrier number is C-30743, dated 6/12/64. The ring gear has 43 teeth, and the pinion has 8 teeth, which is 5.38 ratio. The part number on the ring gear is 1GM 3830273 8 43 11/65.

My question is, all of my research says a carrier numbered C-30743 is a 3 series posi. How do I have 5.38 gears on a 3 series posi with no spacer??? I am trying to sell this center section to buy a 3 series carrier, when I think I have a 3 series carrier! Maybe I can just re-gear what I have? I am looking to go 3.70 ratio.

Here is a pic of what I have:

I was told by someone that there is no way a 5.38 gear set can be used on a 3 series carrier without a spacer, guess he was wrong! Thanks!
