Hi All,

I'm trying to get my hood back on my '55 and on one of the hood hinges, the top bolt drivers side, the nut behind the firewall is no longer there. I can see the hinges bottom bolt nut from under the dash, but not the top one? I've taken out the speedometer panel and still can't see how I can get a nut on the top blot of the hood hinge????? Any help on how to get in there would be greatful!!!

Mike....Welcome to TriFive :wavey: We had a guy named Bobby with a Nomad that had that problem a long while back....Seems like he ha to use some kind of special nut. :confused0006:
A 3/8" rivnut will work, unless you want to cut off the cowl end panel and weld it back on - like I just did. . . But I had reason to cut off the panels, MUCH rust underneath!
:hello: hi mike and welcome. good to have you here.
Mike.....Here is the thread that Bobby56 started that I was thinking about: http://www.trifive.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41667 Used something called a rivnut....Was not a cheap fix....However, he got 'er done.

The only other way that I can think of would be to cut an access hole in some inconspicuous place, do your business, then patch it up.:confused0006:

This is very helpful. I see it wasn't me not knowing how to access the nut, it appears there is no easy way to access that area! I'd hate to cut an access hole, but it can't stay like it is. Maybe my local NAPA store has this tool to loan me since I will probably(hopefully) never need it again!

Thanks a bunch, this is the first forum I've ever joined and I'm glad I did. I'm trying to finish a new motor install for my '55 2 door hardtop convertable and am getting closer.

Thanks again!
I think I'll try this rivnut thing, but Thank you!
