lube them up. my trans am does the same thing. im asuming when you push it down by hand it all lines up.
I have heard people here suggest putting a number of shims behind the top bolt of the hinges. My 56 did this for years. I was at a cruise one night and a guy saw me pushing down on my hood and told me to go home and spray the heck out of all the pivot points with WD40. I had already lubed the hinges with a spray form of white lithium grease and thought he was nuts. BUT..I went home that night and did as he suggested and it's been 3 or 4 years since I've had to push down on the rear corners of the hood. Now..some guys here have said they did this and now their hoods wont stay up all the way...It wants to close on it's own. I haven't experienced this. But even if I had I would have sprayed a little brake clean to remove the WD40.

Thats what i did...You need something that will penatrate. Just pull them and lube them up real good work them by hand till they move freely. remove the springs before so you can feel the friction. If the hood falls after its probably just worn springs. The friction was holding the hood up before.
I had to notch hinges just a little bit.
