Hey drag racers, just wondering how fast a 55 can get and stay stable in the quarter mile with stock underpinnings?

10 years ago we used to run 9.60's all day long in a tubbed 55 2 dr sedan with totally stock front suspension components. brakes werent the best though:eek:
9.60's wow! I felt ok going through the traps at just 115mph, at 3860lb's I wont worry about making the nines, but a 10.50 would be possible with a little giggle gas. Sounds like if the original stuff up front is in good shape it'll be fine.
stock stuff works fine. i am running in the 9's and everything except for the disc brakes and moroso springs are stock. new bushings and ball joints of course.
twisted...

Hey Speedy, lov the profile pic, looks like you're about to TWIST that 55 in two.... great pic !!! :happy0030:
It's not so much the suspension as the aero. When you get faster, you'll want the car lower to keep air from going under it.

There were some photos last week on Chevytalk of a Bonneville racer 55 sedan that sat fairly high. But it had a big air *** under the front bumper. The car went between 195 and 200 at Bonneville. I'm sure the air *** made the car more stable.

The other thing about the stock front end is that it's heavy. Light weight = quicker et's, so at some point cutting weight is something you want to do.
Are any of you fast guys putting extra castor in the geometry to give a little more stability?
I have a friend that owns an alignment shop set mine up so that the alignment is done with the front 1" higher than at rest. it felt like it was on a Sunday cruise at Zmax when it went through the finish line at 137.20

thanks. we are working on an Anti roll bar for the car. everytime it does that it is so violent that i almost lift my foot for a minute wondering whats broken! lol
I love those 55's. Had one several years ago. My present one is a 57 2dr
post. When I had it tubbed the builder also put me in a 4 link coil over
rear sub frame, and it is set where the drivers side is one inch lower than
passenger side...Don't race it but have coil overs and disc brakes on all
four..Would have to say I had no trouble out of the stock suspension
either, but I wasn't going 138 MPH///...I love to see these tri fives at
the drags..Saw a few at the Sportsmans event in BG Ky a week ago,
plan on going to Huntsville, Ala end of this month for big event there.
