Just pulled my timing cover, 78-79 SBC 350. I'm ready to make a parts run and I'll be getting a fel-pro cover gasket set as well as one-piece oil pan gasket.

Trying to measure the chain slack and it's about 1/8 inch or so--OK???

Thanks, Mike

When in doubt, replace it... You don't want to have to pull the front off again later...

It's a double and visually looks near new. I'd heard a little slack was "normal", so I was just asking the experts...

added: no performance problems or leaks prior to takedown

If I was to it, then I would change it if I had any concerns at all. bowtie-trifive

Buy a new double roller & run it 500 miles and it will look the same as yours does now. You have nothing to worry about.
