Hi there,I have a 57 2dr sedan that I would like to tub out. I already have the 4 link parts for it and the roll cage. I was only going to do a mini tub with aftermarket steel tubs but the floor is bad on this car also. Can I cut the entire floor out and lower the body down on the frame some so it will sit lower? I would also like to use the original frame in the rear and just cut it and move it in 5 inches on both sides. I would just put 2x4 steel tubing out to the A and B pillars and install my own steel floor. Does this sound like a good idea or bad idea. Any input is great thanks.

I guess if you have the talent you can do whatever you wish..I had
my 57 2dr sedan done by a pro, tubbed, 4 link, fuel cell, 9'' rear,
with aluminum from back of front seat to the rear...I did not want
to attempt this on my own..I could have done some of it, but I was
worried about allignment issues....Good luck on your project, I'm sure
others will have something better to say

What you are discussing is to “Channel” the body over the frame. If the intent is to fabricate your own floor then this will certainly work. Adjustments to the toeboard area and the trunk area will be required. Check with suppliers like AME, Chris Alston and S&W Racecars for complete floors for racecars, both in aluminum and steel. They offer a quicker and neater alternative from firewall to trunk.

Yes, I will channel the body over the frame. To me the car is too far gone to restore and I have wanted a tubbed car for a while now so this should work fine. I have never built a tubbed car before but if I screw it up I will fix it. Thanks for the input.
