Here's today's C*** sandwich.Anyone here live in New Orleans? I think that I have a voodoo curse on me...
I have an 84 motor w/no place to mount the Z bar knob.So I bought the z bar bracket pictured below. The original exhaust manifold emptied to the rear right where this bracket and the clutch linkage was so I changed to a "rams horn" manifold that empties in the middle.
The rams horn fit the 57 sedan delivery very well w/plenty of room between the manifold and the steering box..The 56 steering box..not so much. The rams horn is 3/4 - 1" wider than the stock exhaust manifold. SO........
I cant use the rams horn because there is not enough room for it w/out it hitting the steering box.,& I cant use the original exhaust manifold because the exhaust will take up the space needed by the clutch linkage.
If I can find someone w/a set of headers how do I know that they will fit?
Is this a surmountable problem w/out needing a pile of money IE;new steering box etc. I really dont want to give up on the 4 speed idea & go automatic.

Are you running the side motor mounts that move the engine forward? I run the ram horns on my 56 small block with the stock front motor mounts and have plenty of room around the steering box and the cross shaft worked out perfectly.

No,I am using the NON 3/4" forward side mounts.I put them on then dropped the motor into place using the instructions on the Ecklers site.
I used the front mounts as a guide to where the mounts should go so the motor is sitting where it would if I was using just the front mounts. Was this the wrong thing to do? Should I forget about the front mounts and just slide the engine forward as far as it will go ??

Don,thats what I was thinking that I may have to do..(headers)
