I have a 55 Chevy bowtie matching, Custom Autosound Stereo with cassette. It came with the car when I bought it. I'm considering replacing it with a standard size after market stereo with CD/MP3 & USB. At a car show I saw one in a 55 Chevy stock dash and was surprised how nice it looked. The Autosound looks great but it sounds like a Jack In The Box drive thru speaker :character0071: and I have to turn it up loud since it won't balance. Most of the sound is on the passenger side. There is a AS oval dual speaker in the stock location and a speaker on each aftermarket kick panel. I'd like to replace the worn bow tie dash trim on my 55 with a Gene Smith re-pop. I was wondering :confused0006:... if I got one without the radio hole, is there enough of a hole under it (steel dash) to accommodate the new stereo? I don't want to alter/cut the steel dash. The new bowtie trim could be cut from the back side with a wood jig & router. Thanks, Danny

Danny i got the repop ,cut out the hole from the inside of the new dash trim and installed a new jvc the new trim covers the hole from the original radio and it looks great, when i installed the speakers in the front doors i cut the backing board and left the out side door skin intact ,it looses a little high frequency but i hardly notice, then i installed 2 speakers in the back behind the rear seat ,sounds great
