i got my steering box in and now i'm ready to get the rest of the linkage hooked up.my question is when installing the pitman arm must i have the steering shaft in the center of its travel?and should the steering shaft have a mark on it for the gearbox highpoint?i looked at mine and darn if i can see any mark.thanks for any help!

The pitman arm will only go on one way. It is "keyed" with one wide spline.
I don't think there are any markings on the shaft that hooks to the steering column shaft.

There is a mark on the end of the steering shaft designating the high point of the steering box. The pitman arm will point straight ahead when the mark is at 12 o'clock. ....http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/shop/1955/55csm0904.html
