Looking for some Racer knowledge

Friend took his car to the drag strip. Car has BB 502
He hit the rev limiter pretty hard in 2nd gear and we saw sparks in video under car.
Only had sparks on run and point that he hit the rev limiter an ideas on what cause sparks?

If it has open exhaust I could see that some sparks from the extra fuel that doesn't get burned off due to the ignition cutting off...

other than that???
He has cutout's on it so, Yes open exhaust.
Look more like metal sparks. Not flames.
I am wondering if the late burning fuel in the exhaust melted something.

Far as I know car still running well.

its hard to tell where the sparks are coming from at that angle. have him check the drive shaft for marks in case its getting into the driveshaft safety loop when the chassis and suspension is flexing. just a guess.:anim_25: on figuring it out.

If you stay on the rev limiter very long you will likely have sparks from the cylinder. This would be unburned fuel and maybe some oil residue along with a little detonation that you see. As you know the sputtering that you hear is the spark being dropped on cylinders by the limiter. On the next revolution the cylinder fires with a little left over fuel. Rev limiters are meant to save the engine from catastrophic damage. If you stay on it too long you could damage the engine. :)
