That has got to be a rush. I did the Richard Petty driving experience at Disney World in Florida. Could only get up to 122 mph on the 1000' straightaway. Averaged 88 mph on the one mile trioval. They say you can get to 130 mph at Vegas and 150 mph at Texas Motor Speedway. Can't wait to get to one of those. I will do the 30 lapper next time.

I did the Texas Motor Speedway a few years ago and you do hit 150 down the back stretch. You bump the limiter at about 5,000 rpm or could go much faster. I only did the 10 laps and that went in a hurry.

They are fairly conservative through the turns with you as would be expected. It's amazing to me how much driving really is involved. When you enter turn 3, if you are going fast enough and not steering pretty hard left you'll run right up the banking. If not going fast enough, it shoots you down onto the apron. Got the hang of it pretty quickly.

You feel like you are running much faster than it looks from the infield area. Looked like watching cars in slow motion once I was watching the others.

One other thing to do while there is what they call the "ride of a lifetime". You go out in the passenger seat with 3 race cars and they drive much more agressively. The centrifugal force when cornering at speed is very surprising relative to what they let you do. You spend a lot of time pinned against the right side cage. They actually draft and pass each other which is pretty cool.

Hope this isn't off topic since it includes a mopar, but... back in '76, life was good, I was stationed with the 101st, newly married and we had just bought a 71 GTX for my wife to drive. She always wanted to take it down the drag strip, but would never do it when I offered to take her racing that weekend. Had to sell the car cause it needed engine work and I was being deployed overseas for awhile and couldn't get to it. Fast forward to 2007 and we're divorced, but still sorta friends, I find out she's been diagnosed with breast cancer, and her online profiles all read that her life dream is to take a 71 GTX down a dragstrip. I quickly found a '72 Satellite, send her pictures and tell her to start practicing her leave. Over about a years time, I duplicated the GTX we had, and we went racing. I like to think the anticipation of the race helped motivate her to fight the cancer, she's in remission now, and when we went racing, she made about 15 passes during time trials, just smiling like crazy. She really enjoyed it.
