need some input re a good truck for towing

Hi guys, i presently have a landrover 90 which i use to tow a 17' car trailer with a off roader landy on the back, overall trailer weight is about 3ton.

Looking to upgrade to something with a bit better spec, been looking at dodge ram pick up, but have no experience with this kind of vehicle.

i can see that the 3500 with the cummings diesel would be a great tow car but it may be a bit large for my needs, not sure if the 1500 ram with a 5.7 hemi would be man enough??

Any other recomendations from across the pond ???

I pulled my 18` car hauler with my 57 on it last month. Went around 220 miles round trip on 1 tank of gas. Averaged just under 12 mpg in my 2005 Chevy crewcab 1/2t with the 5.3 V-8 and an automatic trans. It has the factory tow package on it too.

Get the Dodge 2500 with Cummins Diesel, it will haul anything you want with no problems, make sure to get the towing package.:D
I have a 2006 Chevy 2500HD with a Duramax and Allison 6 speed auto. I tow quite a bit, and absolutely love my truck.

I like my chevy ht with a 5.3 in it. I used to haul horses all the time and had a ford 3/4 ton with the diesel engine. Ran forever and never had an issue. The chevy is more comfortable and rides nicer than the ford I had.
I would not embarrass my 55/56 or one of my Camaros with an off breed tow truck. But then I an the kind of guy that when his friends catch him dirving his girl friends fathers junk Dodge they take pictures and put them on the wall of their shop. I have a couple of newer still older injected trucks, but I still like to hook up to my 1/2 72 Cheyanne Super, been towing cars with it since the 70s still gets it done.

I'm with Ray...Have the same truck and its perfect. The tow mode on the allison makes it easy to tow. The wife doesn't mind driving even with a heavy trailer. It's my daily driver and I get around 18-19 mpg. I will never buy another gas engine for towing.
