Hello all......Just joined here, I have been a long time member of Team chevelle. I have a "stock appearing" 66 chevelle with a 509BBC. The reason I joined is I'm going to be doing some long needed work to my fathers 57 BelAir 2DRHTP. I'm hoping this site will be as usefull for the 57 as team chevelle is for my chevelle. The first question I have is in regards to converting the front drums over to discs. Let me start out by saying I have worked for a nationally known parts store for the last 11 years, so, "kits" are just a waste of money for me. I've been looking on ebay and on the internet and I'm seeing people selling just brackets to allow the use of discs on the front with the stock spindle. This appears to be what I'm looking for. I see different styles though. Also, some say offset and no offset. I also saw something to do with changing the steering geometry??? I was curious if anyone has experience with these and what is my best choice?

As I recall, the kits that use late 60s to 77 Chevelle rotors typically offset the wheels outboards 7/8" per side. CPP has a kit with minimal offset (.300", I think), but it uses proprietary rotors. You might also want to check with HotRodsUSA.

As I recall, there are some kits with less offset, but one of the brackets (2 per side) fits on the back of the spindle. The steering arm is relocated farther inboard and bolts through the bracket onto the spindle. I'm no mechanical engineer, but I think that may change your steering geometry, and the reduction in A-arm clearance may increase your turning radius. Maybe someone here has "been there, done that."
