I'm getting close to pulling my 235 and installing a 350. The engine has an 8 inch balancer. I want to use front motor mounts, will they need to be notched for clearance? Am I better off getting a smaller balancer?

Thanks, Brent

motor mounts

The mounts on mine were cut on the inside to give enought room to clear the balancer then I install side motor mounts and the transmission crossmember mount, they will work but sense your changing motors I would install the side motor mounts they work better and more room when you get the 3/4 forward mounts for the HEI distributor. Brent....I would notch them for the larger balancer....Not that difficult and doesn't make them any weaker, if done properly.

I have the 400 sb with 8" balancer and my front mounts are notched, I keep an eye on them, but so far they are fine.

As repeated here several times. Yep notched. So long as you are using the bell housing rear mounts, I think you are cool. If you intend to eliminate the rear mounts and go to a trans cross brace, I would switch to the side mounts, due to the stresses of such a long distance between supports.
