Is there a spec placement of the shock bar?

And at what angle or degree should the shock be positioned for the best ride quality?

I made my own with a couple of angle iron pieces and a two inch pipe. I fabed it up with a couple of tack welds, then with the top of the shocks off, I lined the bar up with the shock holes, and tacked the angle iron in place. It did take me several tried to get the angles right, buy I saved fifty five bucks, that and the satisfaction that I did it my self. :anim_25:

I made three of them. Two for two of my '57s and one for a '57 I bought for a former girlfriend. That was in 1982/83.

I too used the upper mouting hole of the rear shocks to line the angle iron used as the upper mounting point on the shcok bar.

I've got a stock rear end in my 55 Wagon, do I really need a shock bar in it?
Really has nothing to do with what type of rear end you have....Its more of a factory design failure.....The top of the shocks were mounted to the body and not the frame.

Yes Sir you do. Cheapest and one of best upgrades. Also cushions road shock to you and protects your floorboard. It's a good thing. :tu Lloyd

Not if you intend on keeping the car original.

But even some very nice original cars, have this upgrade.

As of right now I have no plans of ever installing a rear shock mount under my 210 4-door Sedan. She even rides on the original shocks.
