I think they look a little more modernized when they're body color but only if the guards are gone. I think they would look awesome on your 55 cause its BLACK!

imo. these cars are made for chrome.
The late 80's and early 90's painted look in real time says economy to me.
I'm no man of $ but I'd save up for chrome...which is exactly what I'm doing now. Bought some repro stuff that doesn't fit well...saving for rechroming original stuff.

I do like the look of painted bumpers on some 55's, but don't think they would look too good on a 56 and definately not on a 57, although, in saying this i have never seen painted bumpers on a 56 or 57......

jim 57 love the black just what i needed to see ,and rod man i think they will look good also,i think i will eliminate the guards and have them smoothed right out .if you guys look at my car i have changed everything i could think of i was going to make my own bumpers and have them chromed because when i had the front bumper off i really liked the profile heck man ill keep thinking about it thanks every one ill post pics when im done
