Use of a machine polisher on glass w/ chips may cause it to break..[Heat related].
If the scratches can hook a fingernail, they won't buff out.

Cerilium paste and a felt buff pad are what I use to clean them up.

You can use very fine steel wool, I think it is 0000 to polish glass. You can use toothpaste to remove real light damage or scratches. It seems like the regular style works better and is more abrasive than the gel type. You can put it on a rag or right on some steel wool and then polish with just the steel wool afterwards. You won't be able to remove anything that you can feel with your fingernail. Good luck!
