1949 GMC 1/2 ton - 6 volt

rebuilt generator - truck starts fine after setting....
after driving 5-10 minutes...turning off engine.
When trying to re- start, battery is dead....
Is such a thing as negative charging or discharging..?

I have not polarized ....tell me more....

AMP only shows small discharge when I turn the lights on....no other movement on the gauge....
If the ammeter is not showing a charge when the engine is reved a little above idle, the battery is not being charged.
To polerize the generator see last paragraph on this page. ---- http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/shop/1948_51truck/51ctsm1213.htm ----- If that doesn't cause it to show a charge on the gauge, use a jumper as discribed in paragraph 3, a on this page. ---- http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/shop/1948_51truck/51ctsm1208.htm

Thanks for the information. I will try the process tomorrow....it sounds like my problem is the polarizing issue.
