Have seen quite a few varieties of power steering boxes available. Building a car that I am going to drive, so want to go to power steering. What is a good bolt-in unit? I have a bare frame right now, and am stock-piling parts for winter re-assembly. Have done some reading on the different boxes, but want to hear first hand what you guys have experienced.

:) I would use the 500 series box, I have put it on both of my '56's and makes a world of difference.
You will have to shorten the steering shaft about 3 inches if you want to keep it or go to a IDIDIT or Flaming River column that is set up for the 500?

good luck,

I agree with Don, I would go with the 500 box. I changed my 605 to a 500 last winter and love it. Just got home from a 1,500 mile cruise and love the feel of the 500.
Good luck,
Jeffrey

I just installed the 500 box in my 57. I bought the box plus a shortened steering column and shaft from CPP along with the rag joint. The original rag joint and steering shaft were too long causing the column shift bracket to interfere with the firewall. CPP made some slight modifications to the shaft and rag joint which allowed more clearance for my column shift bracket to work without interfering with the firewall. There are a few post related to this clearance issue. If you plan to use the column shift, then ensure you get the shaft and rag joint from CPP that they have modified to clear the firewall. Others have shortened their own shaft but I thought the cost for the shaft and steering column were very reasonable.

Thanks
Todd
