Question about shifter....

Hey guys; I bought a Muncie 4-speed tranny a few days ago that came out of a '68 Camaro and it came with all linkages and a shifter already mounted on it. The shifter that is on it has Hurst Super Shifter on the handle and is a short straight shifter. My question is; What does the red T handle do that is part of the shifter handle? I'm not familiar with this type of shifter and will most likely have to replace the shifter handle because I'm installing the transmission in my 57 with a bench seat. Thanks, Bill

the red "T" handle

Bill ,
The red T handle . In neutral one can lift the red t handle in order to lock out reverse. push it back down and you can get reverse again. reverse lock out for drag racing no accidental reverse engaugements.

Dave

So Dave; you pull "up" on the red handle? I tried that one time but it didn't move upwards. I'll try again; maybe it is stuck. It's been sitting up for a while. Thanks again Dave........Bill
