Hi everyone,

I'm preparing my trunk lid for paint with black SPI epoxy primer. A few weeks ago I stripped all the paint from the trunk lid to see the damage. More rusty than expected, but with my budget it will have to do until now, until I can raise the funds for a new lid. The trunk sat inside completely back to metal. By the time I got to it, it had a coating of fine surface rust which was easily removed with 80grit. However, I'm seeing these patches of rust coming back after just a few days. Is there an underlying problem here that will prevent me painting (after removing again with80grit?). I dont want to use a rust convertor as it is not compatible with SPI epoxy.

stop touching it ! wear cotton jersey gloves when you work with metal. a hand or finger print will come back to haunt you later. knock it off clean it an epoxy it.
