Is there any literature out there that tells you exactly what fit and finish of miscellaneous parts should be? As it would be from the factory for a 57?

That's a start at a minimum, there are others books that can decode items like Chevrolet by Numbers

I spent two years working on my first '57. When I was almost done with it I bought the shop manual and assembly manual. Should've gotten them first. Hindsight is always 20/20, isn't it?
