Scammer in Classifieds?

8270 Views 47 Replies 29 Participants Last post by  angs1957
I had a pair of headers for sale in the classifieds and got a response from a member that I'm pretty sure was fraudulent. Wondering if maybe someone wants to review what happened and maybe post a warning to other members if you agree. I can forward the email chain we exchanged if you give me an address to send it to.

Thanks.

I think I got one too, in response to the ad for my 57 4-door sedan. It was a month ago, and I sent some more pics and info, and never heard from him again.

What was his e-mail address? This one was [email protected].
This one was [email protected]. Lots of unusual requests with him sending me a check covering the cost of the headers and shipping and then I pay for shipping directly. Didn't smell right to me at all and when I asked for some specifics, he went away...I looked up the user and saw that he joined Tri-5 on the same day that he sent me the first email about buying the headers and has not made any posts.
Yes...I got something from him as well...very strange
I've sold a ton of stuff on craigslist . Some things to look out for are , if they email you , they refer to what you have for sale as " the item " many times ,they never call your part what it is . They have funny names , a lot of girl names , and the wording of the message is funny sounding. I never deal with anybody that won,t talk to you on the phone. If you see a add for a car for sale and the price is to good to be true and it doesn't have a phone number , They try to get you to send a deposit if you do say goodbye to your money. I saw a 61 chevy bubble top for $6500 nice looking car , emailed them , the car was local , they had all kind of reasons why I couldn't see the car but said they would hold it for a down payment. SCAM Good luck. Don

:eek:I have a pending sale of an item to this same email address with the name of Jackson Brunnett attached. He says the 'check is in the mail' with the same info about check will be for both the item and shipping.
Has seemed a little strange from the begining?
I will let it play out a little longer and see what happens?

Maybe we could get Otis and Tri-Five to set up a link/posting about a "WATCH OUT LIST" to warn folks about this kind of stuff?

I just banned this user, first his username silverware and second his favorite Trifive was made in 1876

Exactly the same deal (and guy) with me. I asked for some specifics on how he is going to pay, who the shipper is, what amount he is going to send me, where it is being shipped to, what car he has, etc. and he hasn't replied (asked a week ago). Email addresses are easy to come by. I suppose he will be back with a different address.

It sounds like he is operating the same way each time, I would be glad to post my email exchange with him for others to see the pattern if there is someplace to paste this stuff, I just don't know where.
hamsman, kep us informed. I wouldn't ship to anyone until the check clears. OMO

 Your right, I've told him several times that I would not ship or release anything until the check clears the bank.

Just got another email from him saying he's now waiting for the tracking number from the carrier of the payment and says you are expected to have the payment next week Tuesday anway.

This person is a real piece of work!

As mentioned before, I will let it play out for a few more days and see what happens.

Will post more info if he contacts again.

thanks,

You can find him if you do an internet search.

I always say, don't even think you can play along and outwit these guys I would stay clear.

Sounds like we are on the same schedule - I got an email today saying that I will get the payment on Tuesday as well. The check I am getting is for $500 above my asking price to pay for the shipping and I will be shipping the parts to Belgium! Seems a little strange to spend $500 to send a $350 pair of headers to Belgium, doesn't it!?!?

I won't be responding to his emails any longer, even though it is becoming somewhat entertaining and I am interested in what exactly his angle is. I am guessing if I continued, he would want me to ship the headers before his check clears.

:D I understand what you are saying and what Otis has said. BUT, it is kinda a challenge to play his game. I have not responded to his latest email but may just to see how far I can push him/her?
If you have any more contact or if I do, lets keep all informed as to what happens.

This Jackspn Burnnettt has also contacted me about a deck lid I have for sale in the classifieds. The latest contact was today. same song and dance about paying the shipper--ect.. Thought this guy was strange from the start. He wanted me to ship upon receipt of the check---WRONG! i really do not think I will ever see a check.
i have a collection of bogus checks from these guys. i think it's funny.
I got a PM from someone the other day as to my old headers, I responded but have not yet heard back from the member, I will not post His name in the event that He is legit
scam artist

got the same email .. i am selling
a 57 4 dr hardtop for 1800.00. he said he would pay me 1500.00( for the doors only) i said ok.. knew it was a scam...so i said cash, paypal or usa postal money order only.... never heard from the(donkey)again..... figured i would mess with the fool alittle bit
Sounds about like the same stuff the guy selling a zero turn mower on craigslist gave me. He was going through a rough divorce and is now living in the UK even though the mower is advertised as being 60 miles from me. No thanks.
Terry
Guys please do not encourage this spammer by playing along with him, Just pm us the username so we can ban any spammers, If he thinks he has a chance he will tell others and then we will spend a lot of time and resources trying to stop them.

They will send certified cashiers checks, money orders and so on that are fake but look real. You cannot win with these guys.

Trust me they can get alot of info, just buy researching your email address etc. Again you are playing with fire.

Thanks

Otis
