I've NEVER had a black car. Thought they look great, just they show everything!...I'm at an crossroads on my 55. I'm seriously considering doing the American Graffiti reproduction. That's my dream car. I live on a white rock road. About 1500 feet to get to black top, DUST galore when its dry...
Guess my question is is gloss black all that bad to deal with ?

I have 2 black trucks and my dirt/gravel driveway is 1800'.
They get dusty and dirty, and I wash them.Everytime I wash,it grinds a little more grit into the black paint.
Neither look good anymore.
So,after a period of time, black won't look shiny and new anymore.
Now,if you haul it in an inclosed trailer,no problem!

Just be prepared to dust it off EVERY time you get to a paved road. I have about 1/4th mile of dirt road, and the tires are always dirty. The yellow doesn`t show the dust too bad though so i don`t worry about it when just riding around.

I've owned one black car and one white dog... I'll never own another again for the same reason... Later, Dave

You will look realllllly Great as long as you stop every couple of blocks and wipe it down. I like them a lot, just don't have that dedication. Kinda lazy. Lloyd

PS Have to add, a black that is not straight, looks like a cheap whatever. If you go black and look GOOD, you will spend lots of time and $$$$$$$$$$$$$$. I like them a lot.

Never, ever again. Black cars look awesome but are they ever a pain to keep looking that way. I do not want to wash and clean any car have it look nice then leave it sit for a couple hours then have to dust it off so it looks nice again. I had a triple black corvette and I swore after that one never another black vehicle.

Yet I do own a black Silverado, I only bought it because I needed a new truck and I got a great deal when I bought it. I've sort of given up on keeping it looking good anymore 'cuz the time spent doing that just ain't worth it.

I do admire a shiny black car, just not the upkeep...Good Luck in you choice.

My '70 Camaro I wish I still owned. was gloss black and was straight as an arrow. When clean that car was absolutely gorgeous. But... I will never own another gloss black car again. To much maintenance to keep clean.

it's true- owned a black car, kept is shiney for the first few months, but ran out of energy and let it slide.
One more problem not mentioned yet is HEAT. A black car is no fun to get into or keep cool on a hot day.

Have you considered semi gloss or satin black or some type of black primmer look ? It might give you what you waunt with a lot less up keep. I have a black saphire show truck and it will work you to death keeping trying to keep it show clean. The guys are telling you the straight of it.

Thanks, I guess I knew that black was a bad idea, just needed some reassurance. My last hot rod was white and the camaro was red...Maybe a white graffiti style. I like that one in the swap meet. I shoulda bought that car, didn't realize he was gonna drop the price when it came off ebay
