My uncle recently bought a car that had an interior fire that appears to have smoke type stains on the chrome bumpers. We have tried everything to clean them to no avail. Is there something to take care of this or are they destined to be re-chromed?
If the chrome has smoke soot on it, it would wipe off. The damage is most likely heat damage. It's what would happen to the chrome if you passed a lit oxy-acetylene torch over it. Most likely the bumper was cooked. Yes, re chrome or replace.
