My 57 has an original trunk light socket and is functional, but was wondering if it's working the way it's intended to. The trunk light only comes on when the headlight switch is pulled out, and it goes off when the trunk is closed. When the headlight switch is off the trunk light does not come on when opened. Is this the original way it's suppose to function? Is the light bulb socket a mercury switch?

Yes, power for the trunk light is from the tail/license plate wire, so the tail lights have to be on.

Don, is there a connection on the headlight switch or the fuse panel that would allow the trunk light to have power all the time, and operate like the hood light?
