Just looking at that auction site we all know and love today, and I came across a 1957 265 block; in the add, it states CORVETTE (please don't tell me there actually were some 265, 1957 Corvette's made!), and one of only 147 made (???). WHERE do these people get these ideas from; are they ALL so totally mentally ill/stupid/crooked, that they really have NO idea what they're peddling? I was't having a very good day as it is, then I read something like this. AND, there's NO easy way to get in touch with E-Bay to tell them the kind of FRAUD they are allowing. I don't really feel any better now, but at least that's off my chest.

The "bag" = ebay.
Furthermore, any engine with Vette valve covers is a Vette engine! 😁

In all of my years working on tri-fives I have seen exactly three 265's in a '57, one of which was in a parts car that I was stripping. At the end of the '56 model year Chevrolet had some leftover 265 engines which they decided to put in some Very early production '57 bodies. They're actually quite rare, and they're very real. Putting Corvette valve covers on a small block was simply a 'dress up' thing at one time and didn't necessarily mean that the engine had ever been within 100 yards of a 'vette of any year. If the engine casting # was actually a late '56 265 and it's sitting in an early s/n '57, it could be for real.

The 57 265 engines were not left over 56 engines. They were 57 engines with the same 57 ONLY block casting number that ended in 1548 just like the 57 283 engines did. The only way to differentiate a 57 265 from a 57 283 is from an original stamping suffix on the block or by tearing it down and measuring the bore.

Yep I'm guilty of putting a set of vette covers on my second fifty seven, wish I had those aluminum covers now

It often seems like EVERYTHING in the classic car world is "Rare", "limited", and "unique"... with a price tag to suit!

Overpricing items is a sure way to price the hobby out of the reach of younger, or more budget minded folks, eventually killing off the hobby alltogether. Then nobody wins.

Let's not overlook that sometimes things are rare because nobody liked them enough back then to buy them which hardly makes them desirable now.
Careful, remember that Ford sedans, hard tops and convertibles out sold Chevrolet for all 3 years of production, but how desirable are those blue ovals now compared to our beloved TriFives?
