By the way, I'm doing my part to carry on the tradition (I turned 80 in Dec). And I still like Jack Daniels, fast girls, fast cars, fast boats and fast planes.
I'm on the left (as flight engineer) and pilot and co-pilot.

Sorry. Wrong post but good luck to all in tracking down your histories.
Dadsfiveseven, by the looks of it I would say that is not your grandfather in the third picture. Looks very similar to him, but the eyes are more deeply set and I don’t see a part in his hair that I can see in the other pictures. Plus your grandfather has his sleeves rolled all the way up on his biceps in the other pictures and the man in the third does not. A small point that can easily change, but just something I noticed. Very cool pictures nonetheless.

Yeah, that;s pretty much the same conclusion I came to once I was able to blow the picture up some. The face just does not look the same. I have continued to dig, and I now know where he was for the majority of his Naval service. I will be requesting his personnel records soon, now that I have his service number.
When I was an E4,I was in Germany (Sembach & Ramstien). Saving Private Ryan had just come out in Theaters. I went to the base theater to watch it...fairly empty tbh.

Next to me, about 4 seats down was a very elderly man by himself who came to watch it.

The first 3 minutes in, he started to stream tears and walked out for about 30 minutes. He came back and sat down, finished the movie.

When the lights came on I asked him if he was ok....he said yes, then said...."My God, it was just like that"

The beach storming scene...where the man in shock was looking for and picked up his arm...that was what he referred to and what got to him.
