HEY GUYS
THE TPI UNIT IN MY 56 BELAIR IDLES HORRIBLE,SOUNDS LIKE ITS MISSING
AND EVENTUALLY DIES.WHAT SHOULD I LOOK FOR.

vaccuum leaks and posible a bad injector. also check for open egr valve.

what year tpi? You can manually adjust the idle with the iac closed. i think you jump a to b on the diagnostic port, turn key on let set 10-15 seconds. unplug iac. turn off key and unplug jumper. set idle and re plug iac in..

If I remember it right, that year had a 9th injector. Also your mass airflow can get dirty and cause bad idle and mpg. Careful not to break resister. Use rubbing alcohol and q tip.. see if that helps. Also check fuel psi

tpi idle

my 1988 unit does not have any sensors in the intake system,just has a filter
attached to the throttle body.what now guys?

Then it is not configured as a 88 anymore. 85 to 89 were mass airflow. 90 to 92 were speed density which did have a MAP sensor,, but No MAF sensor. All the same responses apply except MAF issues.

Word! Your map should be on the pass side, mid intake. Make sure your tuning is good. cap wires etc. What do your plugs look like?

HEY GUYS
I FOUND THE HORRIBLE IDLE PROBLEM,IT WAS A VACUUM LEAK AT THE
BASE PLATE.THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP AND SUGGESTIONS.
