When removing the 4/6 pieces from under the trunk lid, do they have to be scraped out from under the lips also? If so, it won't disturb trunk sheet metal will it? Haven't bought the new ones yet but I think they may have to be tucked under lip?

I carefully cut the new pieces to fit the exact opening. I couldn't find any way to tuck them in under the opening without doing more damage than good. They look like they are tucked under though, I used a small sharp exacto knife and glued them in with contact cement. Dave

The only way you are going to truly tuck them under the metal is to separate the outer and inner skins. I don't think you want to go there.

So just trim each piece as accurately as you can, bond them in place, and push them down around the edges with a paint stick or something similar.

Not easy.

I just installed mine and could not get entire old ones out for the reason mentioned earlier. I used a razor and cut the old ones out as much as I could..(about 1/8" under lip). The new ones will need to be cut down slightly (SLIGHTLY) oversize of the opening and barely (BARELY) tucked in under the lip to cover sheet metal. :anim_25: JIM.

I did about the same ,but i put some black caulking on the very edge(underside) so when in place there were no gaps or ruff edges

I think that the factory put a sheet of that insul in when the lid was crimped together.
I just bought a "filler" set. There were 2 choices:
1 was a nasty looking piece of what appeared to be thick tarpaper. The other was a nice "repop" looking part. EXPENSIVE!!

On some of his restorations, I know Mikey (55redragtop) would go the extra distance and separate the two sheet metals stampings of the trunk lid. He then used a full sheet of insulation cut just like the factory and rewelded the pieces back together. Since the cut was made right where the weatherstriping goes, it was hidden. The ones I saw that he did were beautiful but it was a very expensive procedure. I opted to use the glue in replacements.
