Finally got the exhaust installed yesterday and today will be correcting the mistake of 1.6 rockers and taller valve springs. Have new stock set of 350 springs and 1.5 rockers to install. Adjust valves and put some gas in the new tank. Prime oil pump again while valve covers are off and finally fire it up after it has set with engine in for 6 months. Fingers crossed it makes it. If it don't then I'm done for a while until I can buy a crate motor.

Well, all is good. New fuel pump installed. Three 20 minute runs between cool downs. still 60lb oil pressure and heat steady at 180. No leaks, runs, drips. Letting it sit now for the night. tomorrow morning idle it down set carb and timing and run at various RPMs for about 30 minutes. So far, so good!! Got a video but don't know how to post to you tube.

The sounds and sights of victory! Well done!
Thanks, been dreading for 6 months. Flat tappets are a gamble. Gotta get a cut to fit plug wire set, cobbled those on there and run alternator wiring properly. Had to prop choke wide open for some reason not getting 12 volts to it. 36 degrees today and nippy but still working between warm up breaks.

big question----had to prop choke open yesterday as I'm getting no power to the choke. All is connected but no 12 volts .does this work of a fuse I may not have in??

So the choke should be wired to a keyed source of power and yes, should be wired through a separate fuse. Check to make sure the carb is grounded and the choke ground wire is getting to ground. If it is a power issue, For the time being while you are breaking it all in, you could rig up a little work around, wire to battery positive, to inline fuse holder to toggle switch to choke.

once the trauma of the breakin is done, lol, we can see what is going on with the power to the choke wire.

believe it or not, I found the problem. AAW should be more explicit as to what circuits fuses protect. I didn't install PW fuse, Power door lock or cruise fuses as I don't have those BUT the cruise fuse also includes electric choke power. who's a thunk it??

If you read the diagram super carefully like you are doing brain surgery it says it. LOL glad you have it figured out.
