I am thinking of putting a fan shroud on my 1956 belair V8-265. Does the shroud help cooling the car during idle? I see where it is asked if you radiator is in the V8 position or the V6 position how do you tell whick position it is in? Thanks Jerry

Jerry....If your radiator is behind the bar, its in the V8 position....In front of the bar= 6 cyl position.

A David said- it's that simple. :) -The 6 cylinder is a longer engine and need the the room. -Hence folks running big blocks generally place radiator in the 6 cylinder position.
The shroud helps channel the air flow - making the fan more effective. As long as fan is in motion, the shroud should help with the cooling.
Thanks for the help Jerry
my 56 (350eng) has the rad in the 6cyl position. :)
