So many bad things in the news.... Many of you know I'm a cop. I met this guy on a call Monday. He was having problems with his debit card and couldn't ride the bus across town to catch the train to the City for his job, so I gave him a ride to the train station and we got the train fair handled. He was a burn survivor. He had been burned over 97% of his body. He ws very affected by the burns, his hands barely worked and he was missing many fingers. He had trouble walking. I was amazed he had survived. He said very few survive when the burns reach 90%. I was amazed that this MAN was commuting by bus/train 2 hours to his JOB to support his family. He obviously had a lot of pain. He said it was important for him to support his family. He has 2 kids... He shook my hand as best he could and thanked me for the ride...I could only think to myself, no THANK YOU, you're a good man to take care of your family. We need more people with his ethics.

So many people give up when they have minor problems and become a burden to society! It is GREAT to hear about those that don't give up on situations like this but instead carry on doing what they should do!

Thank you for sharing and thank you for your service to the public and helping a much deserving person.

Dcs, a man I owe my life to told me once that the guys you seldom hear of who go to work every day and take care of their families are the real heroes in life.

And to that, I will add that those such as yourself who cut them a huss when they need one...... Are a mensch!

G-d bless,

Harry

Thanks dcs13 for your story, I can relate to that man that you helped out as I am also a burn survivor, 90% 35 years ago the Doctor told my Dad not to expect to see me alive the next morning. Well I guess I fooled everyone 'cause I wasn't going anywhere. Lucky (blessed) for me though I'm not as disabled as your new friend is though because I have most of the use of both my hands so I am able to among other things work, play ball & restore antique cars! Hats off to that wonderful man for working so hard to support his families & also to yourself for being a good police officer & wonderful human being. Just remembered that my ambulance got a police escort to the hospital.

That's the kind of good news story we needed. My hat's off to your new friend, and, I gotta say, you're the kind of police officer we all want. It's the kind I know, and you're the kind that won't make the news, sorry to say. However, thanks for doing the right thing!
