Ok got my pretty new 150 wagon home and washed it and it leaked like a sieve. Did some searching and the weatherstripping was on backwards and the doors shut and were even with the quarter panel and fender looked great.

So I ordered new weatherstripping removed the old weatherstripping cleaned everything and put on the new weatherstripping. Now the doors look like crap when they are shut.

Does anyone have some ideas or do I take it off and put it on backwards again and never get wet?

Thank you all

Are you talking about the door not being flush with the fender when you say it looks like crap? Regardless, the weatherstrip can't be installed "backwards" and be correct. The weatherstrip will compress after a while and seat a little better. You can also adjust the striker plate to move the door in closer to the jamb. Make certain the weatherstrip is for a tri-five and for your particular model, they are not all the same.

If it was on backwards and leaked water then it probably leaked air also while going down the road. What about it looks bad when installed correctly? Bulging between the clips? If so use some weatherstrip adhesive between them. Or otherwise they will lay down better after time if you don`t want to use adhesive.

I probably used to much adhesive as it does not lay down and the door gets held open by the weatherstripping. The front of the door is fairly flush with the fender because of the leverage from the hinge but the back of the door is up from the quarter and post 3/16" or there abouts. That is what looks like "crap".

Thank you

Whose w/s did you buy?
Some of the "el cheapo" stuff is too big to fit correctly.
As mentioned, you may be able to shut the doors, let them sit for a few days. Then re-adjust the striker for more load on the seals, and repeat the process.

It is soft seal from Ecklers, I just ordered some from Danchuck and I will retry with their product. I get nervous putting to much pressure because it looks like I am springing the hinge you can see the hinge side flex when I close the door. Too much pressure is what it looks like to me. So aim taking it off and retrying with Danchuck's weatherstripping.

Thank you,

Assuming the door closes correctly without the stripping in place and you are going to but new ones, I would advise you to use T&N brand. They are far superior to most other brands currently on the market.

I just put the weatherstripping on the front doors of my '56 210 2d wagon. I bought it from Danchuk and followed the packaged instructions/diagram. I had no problem with it and it is cut long. I do believe you want the seam to end midway on the bottom of the door. For me, the secret to doing this was using a good adhesive-3m-and following their instructions. I did a small section at a time so that I could handle it without getting glue all over the place. I think it can be a little overwhelming if you try to glue the door and all the stripping at the same time. Take your time and good luck. Carmine.

The Danchuck weatherstripping arrived today, it is a lot softer and more playable than the Eckler's product. So I guess I will take the Ecklers off clean the glue one more time and put on the apparently superior Danchuck product.

Thank you all for your comments, ideas and suggestions.

Welcome from Sacramento Rooty! Guess I missed your intro post. I'm originally from San Jose so know the Salinas area pretty well.

If the weatherstipping you take off is at all salvageable I could be interested in buying it from you. Besides my turquoise 57' I have a 4-door 210 project that I am trying to salvage and would be willing to try putting yours on.

Thank you very much, not my work just my check book. My wife and I had a 150 wagon when we were young, we sold it foolishly and this is replacing and reliving our youth. I am redoing some of the car because I am an A type that it has to be my perfic. But I think I am ok under the hood...If it is not raining and if I am happy with the doors and weatherstrip we are going to Pleasanton in 2 weeks, so if you go we will see you there..and I could give the weather stripping to you and if you don't like it we can toss it in a can there..

Thank you again,

I will have to try to make it. Didn't know another one was coming up.

See I had a reserve experience.

I bought both Soft Seal and Danchuck seals for the wing glass of my 150 Wagon and other BelAir Hardtop.

The Soft Seal went in the Wagon, and went in nice, and easy, and with very little problem. Nice product in my book.

The Danchuk in the Hardtop. And, well I stabbed my hand with a flat blade screw driver trying to install them.

If I decide to buy more which I will, I plan on buying more Soft Seal seals.

My only feeling on the Soft Seal is it is stiffer and the doors just did not shut as good as I wanted. The stiffness did make it easire to install on the door. I put Danchuck on the lift gate and the more plyable product it shut easier and I thought better.

So I do not think that it is a bad product I just did not like the way it worked with my doors...

What the real drag is getting the glue off for the second time to install the Danchuck product.

Thank you,
Lynn
