Just got my speedway axle in & im running a big block with the big tube fenderwell headers.

i was going to use my original 55 box but they cut the rod & put a tilt column in it, i tried to use it but the rag joint is hitting the headers (real tight fit) & dont know about the pitman arm (need smaller box):goodnight

does any one have any suggestions on what steering box i can use & what year & make it comes off of ?

i want to stay rear steering (cross over) i heard a vega box but heard they was not strong enough.

any suggestions would be appreciated & thanks for your time & help :goodnight:

If your using an original manual steering box you don't need a rag joint. They are to isolate the driver from the vibration of a power steering box. You can use a straight coupler like this.

i was kinda wanting to put the steering in the back !

is yours in the front or back ? looks like the front ?

i was told a vega box would work for the rear steering (but not sure if its strong enough)

i was told a 65 chevelle manual would work but not sure if i can use it in the rear for the cross steering ?

can u take the pitman arm off & revearse them ?

Vega box! never heard that they were not strong ran them in oval track cars back in the day

Any steering box you use in the rear is going to present alot of problems because the shaft is not as long as the original trifive box. My box is a 525 manual box which was used in alot of GM cars like chevelle and camaro. It is stronger than the vega box. My frame has also been cut and a new frame built. Anything you do other than stock is going to present certain problems, but they can be overcome. I went with this setup because it's clean and neat and saves weight and it's simple.
In answer to your question about pitman arms, if you have a rear steer box with the pitman arm facing the front, you can move it to the front of the suspension and reverse the pitman arm and it will work. This is exactly what I did.

i have a good deal on a new vega box for 150** im sure they are rear steer, so i can mount it in the front & reverse the pitman arm ?
