In 1978 I bought my 55 Delivery in Fla. from a fellow sailor. It was parked (undrivable) under a pine tree. I don't think it had been driven for a couple years. I then moved it (towed) to another fellow sailor's backyard and it sat for another year. I finally started working on it with a girlfriend's (later my wife) brother. It was finally drivable in 1980.

Mine was purchased by the previous owner in the late 60's in Chula Vista California, then brought to the Seattle area. It was a driver for a while, then a race car that had a catastrophic clutch failure. I think the damage happened in early 70's and he parked it. I bought it in the early 80's as a young teen, got it back together and running/driving (still with the floor missing over the bellhousing) but never register it, so technically not back on the road. I sold it to an uncle around '91. I ended up moving to the east coast in the late 90's, and last summer drove from Maine to Washington towing my car trailer, bought the car (57 2dr hardtop, belair) back from my uncle and hauled it home.

It's no where near ready for the road. The good news though, I did finally patch the damaged section of floor that the clutch took out. I'll be doing rockers, floor sections and some odds and ends of rust repair soon.

What did it need to be roadworthy again?
Brakes (converted fronts to disc), tires and wheels and a new fuel line. Needs other work, mostly electrical, and some interior cosmetic work but it runs good and is now safe to drive. I’ve already replaced old, brittle weatherstripping in multiple spots, radiator hoses, fresh coolant and new battery cables. Next up is the seals around the vent windows.

We bought our 57 2DHT in 1977 and used it as our daily driver until 1983 when I decided to park it to do a restoration. Well life and family got in the way, and it was parked in an old corn crib on the farm until Oct of 2010. I have replaced almost all of the body panels and floors, a different frame and built a new drivetrain. It is ready for a final block sanding and hopefully will get painted this winter. I wish I knew the story of how it ended up in NW Ohio as it is a California built car.

Thought it might be fun to see how long these rides sat dead before seeing asphalt again (if you know).

My Panel came home in 2017, but, it was in pieces. If I had to guess the year it had last been on the road at all, I'd have to say in the 1990s, MAX.

How about yours?
My 56 Belair has an inspection sticker from 1968.
