I've been driving my 56 with no tailpipes since the middle of summer. I had the mufflers(Flowmasters) in front of the rear end with turn downs. It always droaned in the car on the highway and made my clothes smell like exhaust fumes badly. Since its time for the windows to be up and the heater on, I went and had tailpipes put on today. I also had the tires balanced. They had been mounted but not balanced this whole time. It is soooo smooth and quiet now, I just love it even more.

Yeah...I hear ya, but still can't bring myself to use pipes that stick out like they do on trifives. Once my new diff and the coil overs are installed, I may run a set of tails that run up into the fender drops and turn them down with cutoffs just above the rear fender line so nobody can see them.

Glad this worked for you Halfrod

Yep it makes a lot of differnence. I have flowmasters and had dumps in front of the rearend on it for awhile. Had tailpipes installed in April and it sounded so much better, almost too quiet now.

I felt the same way on my 55, I had 2,5 pipes turned down on each side of my centered gas tank [mini-tubbed] behind the bumper. However my 56 with a SBC & 2 inch pipes had to have chrome powerpack extensions.

That is how how mine exit rather than clear out the back they exit at the rear of the fender well and the tips are hardly visible.
