Im looking for someone who has a stock height 57 3100 to measure the distance between the frame to the top of the front spring to give me how much my truck has sagged over the years... I like how my truck sits and want to update the front suspension either a stub or a IFS conversion.

Thanks... there are great guys here they have been helpful on my 55 hardtop... I've had this 57 for 12 years and its been on the back burner for a good 8 years because it drives horrible bit i love the truck and wouldn't mind leaving the I beam front axle if i can make it drive good. I like the look of the old I beam it makes it like a truck

Allive 55-Glad to see your working on your truck-I have a stock suspention 55 chev 3200 in storage so I cant give a measurment, but I would say that if the spring is flat and is close to the snubber,it has sagged. I think mine is about 2-3 in off the snubber. I too love I beam trucks and gassers, but they will never be as nice to drive as IFS . Make sure you have no worn parts ,run radials Tilt the kingpins back a few degrees more than stock and set 0 toe in-toe out to start. A few things that have worked for me in the past. You may have to go with a dropped axle to get the ride hight you want. Good luck and post pics.

Thanks Steve, I've seen people put a wedge to tilt the I beam thanks for the heads up on that .... I've also seen people use super slider front springs, I want to find out about them too... I really want to keep the I beam and put the new cpp 400 power steering box that will be out in a month and add front and rear sway bars with power front disk brakes.... People say you cant make an I beam drive good I say yes you can .... ever drive a super duty ford? or my other truck is a 87 K30 4x4 solid axle .... they drive fine, I'm not looking for a slot car.

Touch base with jsw_1986. He has a stock truck at home.

Alive 55-You are on the right track-I have also observed the4x4s and larger I beam trucks to see how they mount their axles. They seem to work just fine .they fly by me all the time! We could all learn a few lessens from them before we scrap our I beams. -Keep us posted on the results of your mods,Maybe we can save a few more I beams from the scrap pile. Im going to try teflon between my leafs-old hotrodders trick.
