Some people like to use a water resistant filler in the weld areas, in case there's a pinhole in a weld. Dynaglass is what I like for that. Allmetal and Metal2Metal have aluminum filler instead of glass, but are otherwise similar products. You don't want to over use these products, as they are hard to sand. And there's no problem with putting regular body filler over them.

Myself, I weld up all the pinholes. I detect them by shining a droplight on the back side. After the pinhole repairs are made and ground down, I just put epoxy primer on the welds on both sides of them. I brush it on the back side if needed.

Otherwise you should be using regular body filler.

Polyester filler

I think for a beginner/novice type any type of polyester filler weather it be an Evercoat/Dupont/whatever product, you'll be much happier with shaping it than anything with glass in it.

i get pinholes a bunch. sometimes i spray a good rubber based undercoat over every weld. Same difference rick? dyna...dura etc Is this as hard to work as plain old $20.00 a gal/bondo?

dont be foold thinking duraglass is water proof. it is not. it is still a polyester filler which reacts to uv sunlight. shrink and swell . i use vpa by evercoat. sealing the back of a weld with epoxy is best .

You can use some inexpensive, $20/gallon polyester and add some Evercoat "plastik honey" to your mixture to help eliminate those pin holes. Just don't use it on your cornbread. It'll spread much smoother with the honey added. The Evercoat Lite / Lightweight polyester filler with the Plastik Honey in my opinion is a great combination.
